Matthew Ashton is a professional photographer based in Shrewsbury, Shropshire, England.

After studying at Shrewsbury College of Arts and Technology, gaining a NCTJ distinction in photo-journalism at Sheffield, Matthew worked for a local newspaper for five years before joining one of the country's leading sports photo agencies. Specialising in football, he travelled all over the globe covering the world's best known tournaments.

In August 2005, he left to become a freelance photographer and covered the 2006 FIFA World Cup in Germany. Following this he started his own business called AMA Sports Photo Agency.

Apart from photographing football, Matthew undertakes commissions from commercial and PR clients as well as features and portraits for national and international publications.

Equipped with the latest digital photography equipment and mobile studio lights, Matthew endeavours to provide the best possible imagery for his clients.

AMA Sports Photography is based in Shrewsbury and is run by Matthew Ashton. Covering domestic and interntational sports, award winning images are syndicated to national and international publications. AMA closely works with a number of prestigious global agents providing football pictures to magazines and newspapers.

The fast growing AMA archive houses images from non-league football, Welsh Premier League Football, English and Scottish Leagues to UEFA Champions League and the FIFA World Cup.

Being very adaptable, coupled with his vast experience, Matthew Ashton undertakes commissions for a variety of clients when not covering sporting events.

Equipped with lenses ranging from a 8mm fisheye to long telephoto lenses, portable studio lighting and the latest digital cameras, clients are assured of creative and eyecatching results delivered on time, every time.

Commercial clients range from Virgin Trains, Jaguar to the Welsh National Library whilst commissions are regularly taken from the likes of the Times Educational Supplement and the prestigious 'G Magazine' based in Israel.

Matthew is an experienced music photographer. From producing live stage images of rock group Simple Minds for CD covers, tour books and promotional material his images also help promote local guitarists living down his street.

Eyecatching 360 Panoramic images are also offered to clients wishing to produce interactive websites for their customers.

The book was produced by Shrewsbury Town fan and international football photographer Matthew Ashton along with world renowned book designer Jim Lockwood. Although the two have been friends for many years and worked together capturing the vital moments of the 2006 FIFA World Cup in Germany, this is their first colaboration.

With the emphasis on quality and something to serve as a fitting reminder to the old home of Shrewsbury Town, Gay Meadow, it is produced in hardback and is an ideal coffee table book for Shrewsbury Town fans and followers of football. It is being printed by one of the world's best printing companies.

Containing 256 pages, images are accompanied by memories and tales from football fans across the globe.

The pictures come from a collection of photographs that Matthew Ashton has captured of Gay Meadow over the last twenty years with others sourced from picture libraries, with the vast majority being published for the first time. With images from 1930 until the last ever game at Gay Meadow, the unique character of this picturesque ground is captured for ever more.
